In Biology this week we are discussing everything about cells. Cell Theory will start us off then we will move to the organelles and the inside workings of these little miracles. It got me thinking today - what are the biggest cells? My first guess ended up to be a common one- the ostrich egg. Yes, it is big but there is a bigger cell out there in the world. I did some research and found out that scientists once thought that the ostrich egg was the largest cell, but now think that the nerve cells of the Giant Squid or Colossal Squid win the prize. They are on average 12 meters long. I guess they don't call him colossal for nothing! Girafffes have neurons several meters long in their neck/spine and even the small human animal has a neuron from head to tail about 1.5 eters.
long. As our technology has improved, we are able to study creatures like the Giant Squid that previously we only predicted the existance of. We had no way of seeing them. Oceanographers have equipment that can go into the extreme deep of the oceans to discover its creatures and other secrets. So my question this week I want us to discuss is - What are some theories that have altered or changed the way people in history think? Also how might have you changed they way you were thinking as you learned more in school?
