Mrs. Cook's Science Classroom
Rules and Procedures
Classroom Rules
1. Show respect to others by what you say and do.
2. Stay on task by listening to and following directions.
3. Remain in your seat unless you have permission to do otherwise.
4. Food (such as candy, snacks, ice cream, etc.) and beverages are not permitted in class.
5. NO use of electronic devices permitted in class unless specifically stated by the teacher.
6. Act professionally in class. We are practicing for the real world.
Classroom Procedures
1. Entering the Classroom: As you enter the room, please be seated in your assigned seat and prepare for class. Place your backpack on the hooks and put your phone or electronic device into it or on the charging station. Take only what you need for the day to your seat. This is the time to sharpen pencils, turn in homework, get make-up work, etc. By the time the tardy bell rings, you should be seated, quiet, and working on bell work.
2. Tardy: Any student who is not in the classroom when the bell rings will be considered tardy. If you are late, put your bag away and then go directly to your seat and begin working.
3. End of Class: At the end of class, please remain in your seat. The bell does not dismiss you. After I see that all business has been taken care of (papers turned in, materials put up, etc.) I will dismiss you.
4. Questions: If you have a question, please wait until I am finished with instruction (or directions) then raise your hand, and I will address your question at that time. Please do not interrupt with nonacademic concerns such as needing to sharpen your pencil, throw something away, use the restroom, etc. These matters will not be addressed during times of instruction! I would rather you participate in our discussion than go get a drink of water.
5. Restroom Passes: Remember, passes to the restroom will not be issued during times of instruction. We only have 47 precious minutes together, so take care of bathroom breaks between classes please.
Incentives and Consequences
These rules and procedures, in addition to Bay High’s behavior expectations, are in place to help create an environment that is conducive to learning. My expectations for your behavior are high. If you display inappropriate behavior by not following the classroom rules, the following consequences will be applied:
1. Warning – either verbal or nonverbal – Warnings may be given by teacher or peer.
2. The student's parent will be called.
If the problem continues, step 2 may be repeated. Then, the next time the behavior occurs; the student will receive a formal discipline report and will be referred to administration.
Since much of the learning activities will be group oriented, students will be placed in cooperative groups referred to as Student Learning Communities (SLCs). Although, it will be the responsibility of individual students to adhere to the classroom rules during science class, members of an SLC are encouraged to help fellow group members follow the rules and may also hold them accountable by issuing warnings for their inappropriate behavior.
